 WSB:The Third and last day of ValenciaTests. - 17-01-2007
The final day of testing came too soon for Honda DFXtreme, Suzuki Celani, Ducati Pedercini and Yamaha Italia Vanni Lorenzini teams. The teams were able to take advantage of an ideal air temperature of 20 degrees and a track temperature 10 degrees warmer.
The DFXtreme Honda Superbikes put in good times all day. Michel Fabrizio has been making good progress since November and this was confirmed today. His best time was 1:35.500, on medium compound tyres. Aussie Steve Martin finished the three days in Spain with a fastest lap of 1:36.000, just half a second down on his team mate. His time was with the benefit of a soft rear tyre at the end of a fruitful day.
It’s been a tough three day test for Alexander Polita on his first serious outing after surgery to his left hand. The lead rider of the Celani Team seemed to find the test physically trying but after a lot of work on the suspension set-up he was able to record a 1:36.980 lap. The new K7 Suzuki is still not ready to race in Superbike configuration and the Roman team look set to take part in the first two races using older bikes with the latest electronics.
The first outing of 2007 for Dean Ellison on the Pedercini Team Ducati 999 allowed him to get the measure of the Borgo Panigale twin. He was very satisfied with progress and recorded consistent times that will be useful at the next tests in Cartagena at the end of the month. Dean concentrated totally on his No.1 bike, leaving the No.2 machine in the pit garage for three days.
For Vanni Lorenzini it is customary to have two strong riders, both chasing good results, in the same team. 2007 will continue that tradition, with Claudio Corti and Michele Pirro in Superstock sending out a message to everyone by finishing the tests with times of 1:38.200 and 1:38.400 respectively. They were riding 2007 machinery, but the bikes are at the start of their development. On a circuit that always suits him, Massimo Roccoli closed the day with a time of 1:39.500.
