Speedway: Aces looking to shuffle the pack - 17-04-2007
BELLE Vue bosses are close to ringing the changes if results don't pick up quickly.
They face tough matches against Elite League pacemakers Coventry on Friday and at home to Swindon next Monday (7 30).
The team has been shuffled with youngsters James Wright and Kevin Doolan being moved up from the reserve berths into the team proper.
They have overtaken Adam Skornicki and Ryan Fisher in the averages so they drop down and the Aces, sponsored by Channel M, are expecting them to pick up their form with the chance of some easier races.
But promoter Chris Morton and team manager Eric Boocock both made it clear after Monday's heavy home defeat by Coventry that their patience is running out.
The search for replacements is imminent if results don't pick up, even though the talent available is extremely limited.
Boocock said: "The defeat by Coventry was a huge disappointment but we just got beaten by a better team. We can do better at home but we didn't wake up and join the races until it was too late.
"I have to say we think some members of our team are just not pulling their weight. I know better than most that it's a nightmare trying to find replacements to bring in but we will start looking because we cannot put up with this situation for much longer.
"We had another good crowd and we just didn't perform for our fans. I'm not going to point a finger at anyone individually but we feel some people are trying their best while others are not.
"David Gordon and Chris Morton have put a great deal of effort into getting this club up and running since the takeover and they, in particular, deserve better. Even if we get beaten on our own track, it shouldn't be by 16 points."
Morton added: "It was a disgraceful effort for a home team and I am so disappointed we didn't perform better against a very good Coventry team.
"We need to focus on some issues like gating because we showed that when we get in front we are quick enough.
"We can't go on like this and if suitable riders are available then something might happen. We are reluctant to do anything hasty but the point may come where we have to do something."
The Aces will also be looking for a better return from their No 1, Simon Stead, who had bike problems and managed only four points on his return from injury.
Finnish rider Kaj Laukkanen returned home this week for an X-ray on a back injury he suffered in Poland on Sunday but intended to be back in time for the match at Coventry.
Swindon have a doubt over Pole Seb Ulamek who suffered a hand injury in a crash at home last Sunday.
Monday's teams:
BELLE VUE: S Stead, J Wright, J Screen, K Doolan, K Laukkanen, R Fisher, A Skornicki.
SWINDON: L Adams, M Korneliussen, S Ulamek, C Gjedde, L Richardson, A Moore, T Chrzanowski.
Monday's scorers:
BELLE VUE: J Wright 13, J Screen 9, A Skornicki 6, S Stead 4, R Fisher 3, K Doolan 2, K Laukkanen 1.
COVENTRY: S Nicholls 12, R Schlein 10, M Smolinski 10, C Harris 9, M Risager 8, B Janniro 5.
